The Distributed Open Reliable Systems Analysis Lab (DORSAL) is located in the Computer Engineering and Software Engineering Department at Polytechnique Montreal.
The laboratory's activities focus on research aimed at improving the performance, reliability, and resilience of distributed, cloud, and multi-core systems. Very close to the industry, DORSAL counts among its partners and collaborators Ericsson, Google, EfficiOS, Defence Research and Development Canada, IBM, AMD, Red Hat, Novell, Debian, Ciena, and the Eclipse Foundation.
The results of the research at DORSAL are made available to all through open-source software for Linux and other platforms. For example, the laboratory's work led to the creation of the LTTng project. Furthermore, several improvements to the Linux kernel developed at DORSAL are now part of the official distribution of the Linux kernel (markers, tracepoints). Additionally, SuSE Linux, Ubuntu, and Debian have included some of the software developed at DORSAL in their distribution.
